The Ancient Origin of Coronaviruses… Could It be Man With Mammal?

Coronaviruses are found in a diverse array of bat and bird species, which are believed to act as natural hosts. Molecular clock dating analyses of coronaviruses suggest that the most recent common ancestor of these viruses existed thousands upon thousands of years ago.

Coronaviruses (family Coronaviridae, subfamily Coronavirinae) are important pathogens of birds and mammals. Coronaviruses are positive-sense RNA viruses and are currently classified into four genera: Alphacoronavirus, Betacoronavirus, Gammacoronavirus, and Deltacoronavirus (1). Alphacoronaviruses and beta coronaviruses are found exclusively in mammals, whereas gammacoronaviruses and delta-coronaviruses primarily infect birds. The identification of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus in 2003 (2) prompted an intensive search for novel coronaviruses, resulting in the detection of a number of novel coronaviruses in humans, domesticated animals, and wildlife (3–7). Interestingly, surveillance of coronaviruses in wild animals has led to the discovery of the greatest diversity of coronaviruses in bat and avian species, which suggests that these animals are the natural reservoirs of the viruses (8–10). Indeed, phylogenetic studies of bat and avian coronaviruses suggest an ancient relationship with possible codivergence and coevolution with their hosts. Conversely, many coronaviruses found in bats and other mammals diverged near the tips of coronavirus phylogeny, suggesting that these viruses were the result of recent cross-species transmission events 

 “Where Did The Coronaviruses Come From?

An outbreak of a new virus known as 2019-nCoV, which began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, which is commonly known around the world now.  Efforts to contain the outbreak have caused major disruption in China, particularly in Wuhan and nearby cities, where authorities have stopped most forms of transportation. While researchers quickly identified and sequenced 2019-nCoV, many questions remain about the novel coronavirus, including which species first passed it to humans.

In the wake of the SARS epidemic, some researchers went looking for other human coronaviruses—and found them. In 2004, researchers in the Netherlands reported they’d found a novel coronavirus, related to 229E, in a child with pneumonia and in four other people with respiratory disease. That virus came to be known as NL63, and Kahn and his colleagues found it at around the same time in hospitalized children in New Haven, Connecticut (Kahn worked at Yale University School of Medicine at the time). 

Although first identified in people with severe infections, NL63 is, much like 229E and OC43, a widespread virus that causes colds in most people it infects. But there were hints that its effects could extend beyond the respiratory tract. In their 2005 paper on the newly-discovered virus, Kahn and his colleagues reported finding it in 8 of 11 patients they tested who had Kawasaki disease, an inflammation of the blood vessels that occurs primarily in young children. But most follow-up studies failed to find such an association. 

The cold-causing coronaviruses each carry a similar array of symptoms, ubiquitous as they are, other basic questions about these viruses also remain open, such as whether infection with one of them confers lasting immunity. Studies reported in two recent preprints found that it’s not uncommon for a person to be infected with the same coronavirus twice.

Until the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, human coronaviruses that have made the news have been both far more deadly and far more contained than their cold-causing counterparts. No cases of SARS have been detected since 2004, and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), first found in a patient in Saudi Arabia in 2012, has caused fewer than 2,500 confirmed cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organization—but it kills about 35 percent of people with confirmed diagnoses. SARS-CoV-2, which, as its name suggests, is closely related to SARS-CoV, appears to be far more transmissible, and its mortality rate has so far proven difficult to nail down, but many estimates land at around 1 percent. 

At this point, SARS-CoV-2 may not be containable, according to many colleagues who studied SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses.

CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL & RADIOLOGICAL (CBR) WARFARE

During my tenure with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5, NMCB-5 during Operation Desert Shield-Storm, our group the Seabees were planning, responding, and removing chemical, biological and radioactive. The Bible says:

•  We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Mr. Clayborn was assigned this assignment and tasked and was mandated to read, understand, and apply our “Seabee Combat Common Core & Fundamentals,” guidelines. This was an all-hands evolution and everybody, and each company had to learn what to do to keep yourself alive and the next man alongside you. I specifically remember the skud missiles attacks launched by Iraq/Iran at Israel at the time had mobile Patriot missiles to protect them. The reason and purpose for the Seabees’ presence was specifically for Chemical, Biological & Radioactive warfare; and counter-measures. As well as, the US brass did not want the other Arab countries getting involved with a join or corporate attack against Israel; and Israel not responding back with measurable counter-attacks.

US TRAINING POLICY ON PREVENTING CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL & RADIOLOGICAL WEAPONS 

The US may use nuclear weapons to terminate a conflict or war at the lowest acceptable level of hostilities. This is interpreted to mean that the US may use nuclear weapons first. The employment of nuclear weapons by the US is governed by guidance to the joint force commander (JFC) as contained in JP 3-12, Doctrine For Joint Nuclear Operations, and other strategic level directives. The US is a party to treaties and international agreements that limit proliferation, testing, and possession of nuclear weapons. 

US POLICY CHEM WEAPONS The US will never use chemical weapons. The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which the US ratified on 29 April 1997, bans the acquisition, development, production, retention, stockpiling, transfer, and use of chemical weapons. 

US POLICY BIO WEAPONS The US will never use biological weapons. Under the terms of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), which the US ratified on 29 March 1975, parties agreed not to develop, produce, stockpile, or acquire biological agents or toxins of types and in quantities that have no justification for prophylactic, protective, or other peaceful purposes.

• Chemical Warfare Chemical agents are used to produce death, injury, temporary incapacitation, or irritating effects. Three types of antipersonnel agents Casualty (nerve, blister, choking, blood) Incapacitating (symptoms vary) Harassing (tear and vomiting gases) 

• Biological Warfare The intentional release of living organisms or substances produced by living organisms to cause Death or Disease Biological Warfare Slide 12 Biological operations to use living organisms to cause disease or death. Cause diseases such as typhoid fever, cholera, and influenza. Difficult to detect because evidence of the attack isn’t discovered until after personnel show signs of exposure. 

• Radiological Warfare Nuclear weapons produce explosions of great force and heat and release nuclear radiation. Their primary purpose is the mass destruction of property and personnel. CBR Warfare Routes by which agents enter the body Breathing Absorption through the skin, eyes, mucus membranes Ingestion.

•  Describe the purpose of the following: Protective masks; included to protect face, eyes, nose, throat, and lungs from CBR agents or contamination Offers no protection against carbon monoxide or ammonia Filters the air removing particles of dust that may be radioactive or otherwise contaminated Purifies the air of many poisonous gases.

 Describe the operation and maintenance of the protective mask. 

 Chemical Biological Mask, type M-40A Slide 22 M-40A 

1. Place your chin in. 

2. Cover openings at bottom of outlet valve and breathe out hard so that air escapes around the edges of the facepiece.

3. The cover inlet port of canister and breath in. Facepiece should collapse against your face, and remain so while you hold your breath. If it does, you have an airtight seal. If it does not collapse check for matter between facepiece and your face. 

4. Grasp tab and pull the 

Chemical Protective Undergarment. 

The CPU is a two-piece undergarment consisting of a form-fitting undershirt and drawers. The CPU is not removed from its bag until it is needed for use. When the CPU is removed from its VB bag, its protective qualities last for a minimum of 15 days. The wear time for the CPU begins when it is removed from the VB bag. If the original bag is not available, use a replacement bag that, as a minimum, is water-resistant or water-repellent. The CPU can be laundered once for personal-hygiene purposes during its 15- day use. It provides protection from CB agents (solid, liquid, and vapor) for up to a 12-hour period. The CPU also protects against radioactive alpha and beta particles. When worn under a duty uniform, the CPU has also shown enhanced flash fire protection capabilities. The CPU is generally used by SOF, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), technical escort, and depot personnel.
