Christ is informing his followers that while the Pharisees/Rabbis sit in the authority of Moses, his followers should do what Moses taught, not what the Pharisees/Rabbis are teaching [ hypocrisy ]. In other words, follow the Moses types of who do good & are good, but don’t follow the ‘Wannabe’ Moses-who say do good and are not good. Never follow hypocrites and never listen to hypocrisy. “ Every lesson learned is a blessing.” So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish Job 8:13 The experts of the law, scholars” or “teachers in law.” The word in Greek is nomikois which is one who is an expert in the law. In Ancient Biblical Hebrew, the word is saphra where we get the word scribe. The Scribes were the lawyers of their day. The Pharisees learned from the scribes. It is the scribes who knew how to read and write. Not all Pharisees knew how to read or write. Thus the interpretation of Scripture came mainly from the scribes who knew their advantage,
